Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Slowly catching up with posts on the forum...

In December of 2014, gearing up for a local expo, I was surprised and blessed with my first litter of Bitis arietans. I had a total of 20 babies, with a more or less equal ratio of males to females. I was also fortunate enough to catch the birthing process, and managed to grabs some photos of the birthing as well.

The male and female are from the same known locality, and there will be plans to refine some of the coloration and patterns through selective breeding in the near future. The male I will picture here is not the father, but just to show what the locality males generally look like.

The Female (100cm+)

Male (Just to give an idea of the general coloration of males in the locality)

Some birthing photos...

All the little venomous watchsprings just after the total birth...

The little ones, after their post birth shed, in no particular order

The little beggars are all in various stages of blue and shedding at the moment, but I will take photos soon, and update the post. The change in coloration is amazing, and the differences between when they were born and now is absolutely amazing.

Thanks for looking!

Marvellous, Rian. Congratulations. How long had you had the pair and what sort of cycling process did they undergo?

Hi Simon, I had obtained the female about 8 months before she dropped, and she hasn't been with a male from when I got her, and she was eating right up until. Retained sperm, which does mean I did something right, otherwise, she wouldn't have done her thing...

I started a bit late this year... Feeding one last meal end of April. At the end of May, I started switching off the temps completely at night, and dropping the light cycle to 8am-5pm. Daytime temps I set at 32 degrees. I will be warming up at the end of August (thankfully still not quite that warm here yet), and giving a small intro meal in the first week of September. If the male looks restless, I will introduce him into her cage, and see what happens.

I am currently brumating for the next season, using the above cycles, and will let you know if it works this season.

Thanks for the informative reply, Rian. A pleasant surprise for you given you hadn't initiated the pairing.

I am in the same hemisphere and so I am brumating my death adders right now, but I have my daytime temps a shade lower. I'll start incrementally raising them in a couple of weeks and keep my fingers crossed.

Cheers, and good luck with all the babies.

Well, It's been a while, and I suppose an update is required... Most of them are in shed at the moment, but managed to get a snap of one of the male juvi, and a female juvi. Strangley, the males are dulling out and getting darker, while the females are getting lighter and brighter... Without further ado, here are two little gems.
