Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Maja shena is Bischkek. Ona Kavkaskaya. Ja tam byl 4 rasa. Takoi krasivaja strana. Gori ja otschin ljublju.

I cannot speak very well but just enough to travel through former USSR. I very much miss the smell of Shashlik in the streets of Bishkek.

I was told that the Osh region ist better for herping; they even have monitors there. Are you trying to breed the vipers?

Hope to come back to Bischkek one day - all our relatives there have left back to Russia or western Europe.

Regards, christian

You are welcome, Arjan!

No, they are not common now. Now they are rare , because people were catching them diring the Soviet period for the Frunze serpentarium.

I let her and her babies go may be 1 year ago.) At the same place in the mountains , where i found here.

Thanks !

@ Sasha

Does the serpentarium still exist?

In 1997 we visited a Russian professor who kept lots of different snakes (at home Very Happy ) but he had to earn his money by showing them around at schools. His job for zoological institute had been cancelled He owned a lot of Central Asian snakes (Eryx, Dolichophis) and showed me a monitor from Osh.

Unfortunately some years later we couldn't find him anymore. We're told that he'd left for Russia as so many did.

No, Christian, it doesnt exist any more for a very long time. You meant- visited professor here, in Frundze? May be his name was Ozorovsky Vasiliy? Or Lapshin ?

Well , what to do... Our government never thought about the common people.Crying or Very sad

I don't remember the name anymore; I just know that he dad thick glasses and that he lived in the northern part of Bischkek.

It's really sad the situation but' that's why all our near relatives have left the country. If you are not Kyrgyz, it's very hard to get a good job, even if you have best qualifications. That's why my wife doesn't want to go back anymore. After the collapse of Soviet Union she couldn't feel at home there anymore.

I remember one trip to the zoo, they were just renovating it and it looked quite modern.

Are there any other snakekeepers in Bishkek or a herpetologists society? In Russia reptilies are quite popular and they have very famous institutes (Tula, Leningrad) who do lot's of research.

There is no any herp society here . Just few keepers , but none of them except me doesnt work with venomous snakes, nevertheless they have very good, interesting collections of lizards, tortoises, frogs and etc. I would add in your list of russian cityes -Moscow and its zoo, where is working Kudryavcev- a good specialist.

In Europe you can get almost any animal you need, but in Central Asia its impossible to find something interesting . So if someone need something, he should go to Moscow, or South-Eastern Asia.
