Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

PostSubject: Cerastes cerastes CB 2009   Sun 13 Sep - 20:16

Well, it's that time of year again...........

I've increased my hatch rate again this year, though for some reason one little fellow decided to muck up my perfect record. Just one baby was dead in the egg this year, fully formed. I'm not sure what happened with this one, though it was an egg that was in the middle of the clutch. Pulling my stats from the 2008 thread, here are my breeding results to date;

2006 - 5% hatch rate from 19 eggs
2007 - 48% hatch rate from 23 eggs
2008 - 93% hatch rate from 46 eggs (first year with second female)
2009 - 98% hatch rate from 46 eggs (two females again)

And now on to some pictures! (Sorry, I just really love these guys and can't resist taking dozens of photos every year)

Some from Clutch 1 (F1 male x LTC female)

Some from Clutch 2 (F1 male x F1 female)

Now the fun stuff begins.......maybe my changes in incubation will effect feeding response?
Thanks for looking!

I wish you lived in the US! I would love to have a group of these guys but it seems like no one here breeds them with any regularity. Hopefully I can get some WC adults in soon and change that though. Congrats on another successful year!

Timothy Sieber -
I've been trying different incubation temperatures every year as this seemed to be my first major hurdle. I'd rather not post specifics until I'm sure I have it figured out, but I can say that I incubated them with my python eggs this year. As to humidity, I don't have any devise capable of monitoring humidity accurately other than they eggs themselves. I would estimate it is near saturated humidity, though with absolutely no contact moisture. I hope to get enough data together to compile some sort of decent article on captive reproduction of the species.

John Q Pigott -
I've only tried one feeding so far and it went really well with 38% taking their first meal! I've never had that many eat so early so I'm anxious to see if the trend continues.

Hi Jon, great photos and congratulations on hatching so many (no idea what you plan on doing with so many? lol).

What was you incubation period with these?

I hatched some in 08 and was amazed when they hatched in 35 days.

Hi Scott. I was wondering could you explain to me how you cycled your Cerastes cerastes and what methods were used to trigger the matings?
Thanks alot.

Hi Justin, nothing too complicated, just switched the heat off everynight from Nov - Mar. Night temps probably dropped to mid 70's. They are kept together as a pair year round.
